We hate Jimmy Fallon’s desk. As Furniture Designers have hated it since March 2009 when he first came on the air. Every time he sits at it, we yell, “Get a new desk Jimmy!” Now that he is moving into Jay Leno’s slot, we can no longer keep it to ourselves. We have to force a fix to Fallon’s desk right now before NBC cuts that budget1 too and he ends up with an IKEA hack.
Here is why, in our expert opinion as Furniture Designers, we think his current desk sucks (and yes, that is a technical term) –
- Mismatched Center – Looks like they closed up an originally open desk, but the finish doesn’t match the grain. Looks like a bad DIY job or Jimmy Kimmel’s old desk.
- Old Guy Paneling – Looks like this should be David Letterman’s desk. Except Letterman’s desk is at least retro old, instead of old old. No self-respecting tech-generation man should be using such a boring traditional design.
- Thin Top – This is not the desk worthy of a Late Night host. This is a desk found at a garage sale. May have worked when Jimmy’s show was supposed to look budget, but Jimmy is moving to the Big Late Night League. This desk cannot compete.
- Too Small – Jimmy is literally too big for this desk. They probably removed the drawer to make room for his knees. It is so small that he has a table behind his desk to hold stuff.
- Ordinary Color Finish – Come on Medium Cherry, really? Practically every cheap wood desk in America is finished Medium Cherry – way to stand out Jimmy.
Jimmy Fallon’s desk sucks so bad that we have taken it upon ourselves to design some desks for him to consider via Twitter (@HazzDesign). We will be posting these new ones every Wednesday for the next month beginning today, May 15th. We will also update this blog with the new designs as they are revealed, so keep checking back with us here.
Tweet Jimmy (@JimmyFallon) and us (@HazzDesign) which ones you prefer or suggest some of your own desk ideas. Help us Fix Fallon’s Set (#FixFallonsSet or #FFS) and save Jimmy’s desk from getting its ass kicked by Conan O’Brien, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Seth Meyers – pay attention, too! It is going to be hard enough to fill Fallon’s desk.
1 “Despite months of planning, Jimmy Fallon won’t be getting a big, new $25 million studio at 30 Rock after all when he takes over The Tonight Show and moves it to New York in 2014…When Fallon becomes host of Tonight, he’ll have to settle for a mere $5 million renovation of Studio 6B, where he currently hosts Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” From The Hollywood Reporter – 5/7/2013.__________________
